Healthy Kids, Healthy Future
Healthy Kids, Healthy Future is the revised name and continues the work of Let's Move! Child Care (LMCC), part of Former First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative to prevent childhood obesity. Healthy Kids, Healthy Future encourages and supports child care and early education providers to make positive changes in their programs in order to work toward a healthier future for children. Healthy Kids, Healthy Future is voluntary and for all types of proprams: family child care homes, centers, Early Head Start and Head Start programs, preschool, tribal programs and faith-based programs.

Healthy Kids, Healthy Future offers obesity prevention resources and tools to assist child care and preschool providers. Best practices are outlined in five healthy goal areas:

  • Nurturing healthy eaters,
  • Providing healthy beverages,
  • Increasing physical activity,
  • Limiting screen time,
  • Supporting breastfeeding

EIPH has worked with over 90 child care facilities in Eastern Idaho to complete the Healthy Kids, Healthy Future assessment. This activity is free to child care facilities. Resources, best practices, and technical assistance have been provided to help the facilities make simple, but effective, changes to help reduce childhood obesity.

EIPH continues to partner with the IdahoSTARS program to hold Healthy Kids, Healthy Future Workshops. These workshops will provide education and training, in addition to IdahoSTARS credits, to providers in Eastern Idaho. If you are a child care or early education partner, and would like to participate in a free training, or if you have questions about this program, please call the IPAN coordinator, Kaylene Craig at 533-3151.
