Update on 2013 Gastrointestinal Illness on the Salmon River Updated 4/16/14 An outbreak of gastroenteritis among rafters on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River occurred during the summer and autumn of 2013. Eastern Idaho Public Health investigated the outbreak with support from Central District Health Department, the United States Forest Service, and the Idaho Deptartment of Health and Welfare. We distributed a link to an online questionnaire to Middle Fork rafting permit holders and asked them to foreward the link to members of their rafting parties. We requested stool samples from ill personas for pathogen testing. We also took water samples fo E. coli and norovirus testing and swabbed environmental surfaces for norovirus testing.
